Within global menswear Boglioli is a brand ever on the rise and especially in the U.K where it is stocked in the major London department stores plus a couple of independents and we’re excited to become the only current stockist in the North of England.
We have just come back from our meeting with Boglioli in Milan where we bought our first collection and are inspired to share our growing passion for this most stylish of Italian houses.
Anyone unaware of Boglioli should know that like Caruso and Barena, they have been big in their homeland for many years; starting out as a tailor in the early 1900s in the town of Gembara in the Brescia province. Generations later in the 1970s they expanded their premises to share their craftsmanship expertise into the manufacturing of other brands and from around the mid 1990s they began to make their own label ready to wear for which they are now world renowned.
The Boglioli signature look is meticulously tailored AND deconstructed.
It’s lightweight tailoring which for us will sit in-between Barena and Caruso in terms amount of tailoring and pricing.
That deconstructed concept that has become huge in recent years all over the industry and it is largely thanks to the ‘Boglioli brothers’ – Pierluigi and Mario (they also run the brand ‘The Gigi’) and a handful of other key Italians that we are all now wanting that ‘tutto-Italiano’ ‘natural’ and ‘relaxed’ look for our own wardrobes.
Alongside the styling, they have driven to promote ‘washed’ (worn) fabrics which has literally eaten into the formal wear market by softening the fabrics and the silhouette and brought us all round to their way of thinking in the process.
So the influence of these brothers looms large in the industry and we have been admiring the brand from afar but the wait is now over, we have placed our orders and we anticipate it’s arrival in July!
So what’s coming? It would be fair to say we have a capsule collection, a snapshot of the Boglioli story and collection for Autumn Winter. There are suits, jackets, knitwear and a shirt selection.
When our collection is made and on it’s way we’ll start to post some pics!
In the meantime, some images from their shows in Milan to whet your appetite and offer some ideas of what to expect but not exact pieces….
The other shots are from our buying appointment in their Milan space which itself brings a new meaning to the word show room!
Recently redesigned, the inspiration was Gio Ponti, the Italian mid century artist/designer who lived most of his life in Milan.
The palette is pale blue, black, burgundy and lots of brass, very nice.
When our collection is made and on it’s way we’ll start to post some pics for A/W ’16/17.
Ok ok we’ll confirm the brown roll neck on the main image is definitely on order!
That’s it no more clues!!
