Bespoke Wedding Suits

As time goes on there’s an increasing number of aspects to our world and we’re always excited to spread our wings and offer new products and looks. One aspect that will never change though is at the centre of our world – WE MAKE SUITS. It’s our foundation.

We started out as graduates of Gieves & Hawkes’ Made To Measure training & hit the road with nothing more than a few cloth books and tape measures between us, visiting our customers at homes and workplaces. Over time, we’ve grown steadily and and now have a shop of our own.

Surely there’s no better way of selling this side of our business than to showcase some of our work from happy customers who have come through the door and asked us to make them a suit.
Obviously each request can be very different from the last and it is this diversity that we thought would be interesting to see, especially as a potential customer.

We always agree that an image speaks louder than words so will leave the remaining words to the customers who we thank for agreeing to help us do this…

Tom Harvey had a navy two piece suit for his big day. Made from a lightweight wool with a burnt orange lining to match one of our burnt orange knitted ties and hankies. An Eton white signature twill shirt and Crockett and Jones double monk strap shoes for a classic winter country wedding. All from Doherty Evans & Stott.

Rod & Dan had two matching handmade jackets and trousers for their wedding in Portugal. Lightweight seersucker and white cotton trousers. Finished off with fresh white shirts and Crockett and Jones hassle loafers. All from Doherty Evans & Stott.

Dale and Sheena’s wedding in Lake Como. Dale wore a handmade Caruso three piece suit in a lightweight wool check. The ushers wore a three piece custom suit in French navy. All had matching knitted ties and hankies from Doherty Evans & Stott.

A three piece suit for a rural wedding. Carl went for our custom service and chose a checked Loro Piana wool cloth. We chose a brown knitted tie and hanky to bring the look together.

Kirsten and Henry were wed on 1st June 2018 at the beautiful grade II listed Chainstore venue at London’s Trinity Buoy Wharf. Henry wanted a more relaxed outfit for his wedding so we mixed up materials and colours and went with a jacket, trouser and waistcoat combination.

Craig wanted a tweed three piece suit for his wedding in the Ribble valley. We settled on a beautiful cloth from Hunt and Winterbottom (Worsted Allsport) and matched with some tan boots from Crockett and Jones.

Just a small note to Thank you and your team for an excellent job well done, from the expert advice given to us initially choosing both the style and cloth of the wedding suit and the continuous updates right throughout and down to the final fitting. We had many compliments about the suit and we can not thank you enough for your honesty and professionalism throughout. A true gentleman’s outfitters of the highest quality.

Thank you again for helping us make our special day one to remember.

Craig and Claire Vernon.

Could you please tell us about your original requirement and experience as a DE&S customer?

Original Requirement: A three piece suit for my wedding in the Yorkshire Dales in late summer. Ideally blue with a check.

Experience: Having lived round the corner from the shop for a couple of years, I had regularly looked longingly at the fantastic window displays and been impressed with how smart Andy, Matt and Tom always looked.

I have always known that I wanted a made to measure suit for my wedding day and as soon as Steph had said yes I was looking forwards to visiting DE&S. Fortunately the experience surpassed all of my expectations.

Both Steph and I were made to feel completely at home and never under any pressure, right from choosing from such a wide range of high quality cloths. I knew that I wanted it blue, with a check in and the guys set about finding all of those which would be suitable from the racks and racks of fabric books.

From there, all three of them discussed with me what my options were in terms of fit and styling and advised over what would suit my body shape. The end result is a fantastic three piece suit, with a double breasted waistcoat, a blazer with a peaked lapel and tapered trousers with a classic Italian turn-up. I couldn’t be happier with it.

As can be seen from a visit to the shop there are a large amount of high-quality accessories and I also managed to find everything I needed, from a bow tie to socks, all matched perfectly together with the advice of the guys.

I would recommend having a suit made at D,E&S to anyone and it is absolutely worth every penny. I can’t thank Andy, Matt and Tom enough for how enjoyable they made the whole experience – i’ll be a customer for life.

What was your original requirement:

A 3 piece suit for my late summer wedding in the Cotswolds.

I had spent hours online followed by many more trailing round stores both local and a trip to the capital in search for the grail that is the perfect wedding suit. I had a strong idea of what I was searching for that being a suit with a real heritage element for our modernist and mid century feel wedding. At the same time I didn’t want it to look fancy dress.

It turned out my suit was right on my doorstep at DE&S. I had met Andy, Matt and Tom on a few occasions and was initially struck by how well they was all turned out.

The whole experience of having my suit made with DE&S is one I look back fondly at. We spent hours going through the fabric books narrowing it down to the perfect one which turned out to be a mid weight wool perfect for the look I was after but still lightweight enough if we had sunshine on the day! Off the peg doesn’t suit my height and build greatly, so having someone talk me through the fitting and measurement process in detail was not only a education but a much needed relief.

I really felt no detail was spared in the whole process and the communication was first class topped of with the suit arriving earlier than expected.

Would I recommend DE&S? 100% My own Dad ended up coming to DE&S for his suit for the wedding after seeing and hearing about my experience and suit.

What was your original requirement:
I really wanted a blue tweed 3 piece suit for my wedding.

My Experience at Doherty Evans and Stott was wonderful, from The selection of cloth to the different tailoring options, they’re expertise and patience was second to non. All the possible variations were explained clearly and I never felt that they were up selling me on something I didn’t want.

With such a wide range of beautiful fabrics available, choosing was difficult, and took me an afternoon but I never felt rushed even when it was passed closing time. The suit arrived ahead of time, and exceeded my already high expectations.

Every man should have a suit made at some point in they’re life, and I can’t think of safer, more skilled hands than Matt, Andy and Tom.

What was your original requirement:
A lightweight blue 3 piece suit for my wedding in Kefalonia.

A massive thank you to Messrs Doherty, Evans and Stott! They went to great lengths to ensure that I had the exact suit I had curated in my head, even though I struggled to explain it! The end result was a perfect weight (essential as it was hot in Greece!), colour and fit that ensured I felt the part next to my stunning bride and her beautiful dress on our special day. The experience from start to finish is of the highest quality, from suggesting the right mix of fabric in the cloth given the sun would be shining, to ensuring that the trousers would taper perfectly with my shoes. As soon as I walked through the doors I knew I was in the best hands, they really are the experts when it comes to classic tailoring with a modern feel.

What was your original requirement:
I really wanted a bright blue 3 piece suit for my summertime wedding.

Please give a brief description of your experience as a DE&S customer:
I was made to feel welcome right from the start. Even though I had a fairly clear idea of the colour and type of suit I wanted; I needed advice on colour of shirt, tie, lining etc. Mr Stott guided me through their fantastic choice of British fabrics and accessories to develop an entire outfit. After the first fitting, only minor alterations were needed and the final suit was delivered in plenty of time before the wedding. I was absolutely delighted with the end product and received as many compliments on my outfit as my bride did on hers!

What was your original requirement:
A lightweight three piece suit for our wedding in Italy.

Please give a brief description of your experience as a DE&S customer:
I had always admired the work of DE&S from the House Of Fraser days and to be honest, the thought of having a suit from here for the wedding day made going through with it worth while! No, seriously, I’d always admired the individuality of each piece that was displayed and after chatting with Matt several times at (their previous concession in) House Of Fraser, I was in no doubt that these were the guys to sort me out!
Once they had moved to (their) Bridge Street (store), the process was brilliant, not too fussy or intimidating, a few nice chats and a couple of measurements later, the design for the suit had been put together. This isn’t to say that the process wasn’t thorough, every last detail was thought of and the experience, personal style and recommendations of D,E & S helped to create exactly what I wanted. Their depth in knowledge of what they were doing was incredible, they took into consideration everything I needed for a mid-summer Italian wedding and I was so pleased with the finished pieces.

What was your original requirement for coming to DE&S:

Having never had the full ‘tailoring experience’ before, I wanted to ensure that my wedding suit was not only a special and unique outfit for a special day, but that the experience of getting it made would be memorable, too. Having scoured the internet for a tailor, I was recommended Doherty Evans & Stott by a friend who works in the fashion industry, someone who knew exactly what kind of style I go for, and she was certain DE&S would be a perfect match for what I was after.

Could you briefly describe your experience as a DE&S customer:

Following a brief introductory phone call with Matt, I was soon invited into the tailors to discuss my requirements for my suit. I had it pretty clear in my mind exactly what I wanted – something tweedy, but light (it’s a summer wedding) – a three piece – basically a combination of Doctor Who, English country gent and indie styles! Quite a brief, but Matt was as enthusiastic and excited as I was about the suit. We set about designing the outfit; going through every feature individually to ensure every element (from buttons to turn-up size) was carefully considered.

Following being measured up, the suit was ordered and I returned to DE&S a few weeks later for my first fitting. From the second I saw it, I was absolutely delighted with the outfit, even more so following trying it on for the first time. The craftsmanship that had gone into producing it was unlike anything I’d ever wore before (and I could certainly get used to it!). To my untrained eye, the suit looked great, but Matt (as meticulous as ever) set about taking a few extra measurements for slight alterations to ensure that the fit was absolutely perfect.

I returned for my second fitting a week later and, despite being minor tweaks, the alterations made all the difference and I couldn’t have been happier with what I saw when I looked into the mirror. All in all, it was a wonderful experience from start to finishing getting my wedding suit from Doherty Evans & Stott. I can’t thank Matt enough for all his hard work, and going above and beyond to ensure I was nothing short of delighted with my perfect wedding suit.

Excellent! I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted, or what style would work best initially. Everyone at DES was very helpful in guiding me through styles, fits, fabrics and finishing touches and the service was exceptional, from fabric choice to fittings and alterations to ensure I ended up with the perfect suit.
